MUSIC
- Catsup Plate: Rob put out my first Yak Ampersand tapes and continues to put out great stuff, now on durable and respectable formats. Well worth your preferred unit of currency.
- Sad Penguin: Bandmate Chris P's label, deeply pleasing both musically and conceptually. Home to:
- The Minor Thirds. I play upright bass and Chris writes the scalding bleak-funny hits.
- Minmae: Talented and pleasant gentlemen create profound yet visceral rock delghts; I used to play drums but they've come a long way since.
- Unread Records
: Tape label formerly of Lancaster, PA, then of Omaha, NE, now in Lancaster again, that released a weird Celesteville
tape as well as many other fine releases. Correspondence with Chris
Fischer is guaranteed to be amusing and he draws great decapitated birds. Kind of out of commission at the moment, but keep checking.
- Deathbomb Arc: Brian Miller
(of Blue Sonoco, Rose 4 Bohdan, oh god it goes on forever) and his musical/textual
project. Who knows what he will do next?
- Morc Records/Tapes/etc. comes to us out of the lovely Benelux region: very entertaining stuff that happens to include my own stuff.
- Best Kept Secret is an Italian tape label that just oozes love.
- www.cannanes.com: A Love Affair with Nature still gets me, even after all these years.
- Flying Nun: The great NZ label is still around and someday they will reissue the Bird Nest Roys record, I just know it.
- Sauvie Island Moon Rocket Factory: Dave K's idiosyncratic musical universe swings like a starling and undulates like the muscles of a cat watching a starling.
- Popgun: Super-econo tape label out of Riverside,
- Corwood Industries: Interest in Jandek is waning around Tape Mtn. HQ, but there was a time when One Foot in the North was everything. A sad but exciting time.
- Last Plane to Jakarta: Surely by now you are familiar with John Mountain Goats Darnielle's enthusiastic and skillful music ramblings! Or you should be!
- Blackbean and Placenta Tape
Club: No new releases for a while but they put out a fair amount of great stuff (and some of my stuff) in the late 90's: pick through his garage, the bones of your old dreams!
- Doormat, TX: A classic tape label still stands strong in The Woodlands, TX!
- Seagull: Mysterious noisy sounds from Omaha, home of the infamous Naturaliste, among others.
- The Redcoats are Coming: I used to play guitar and bass and so forth with Sarah and Richel in Bronwyn... now they are in NYC and doing something new.
- Ross and the Hellpets: A fine bowler and a man who can pick up pretty much anything and play it well.
- Corndogs.org: The Minutemen.
NOT EXPLICITLY MUSIC
- The IPRC is Portland's premier self-publishing resource and they let me use their printing press and borrow lots of King-Cat comics.
- Common Dreams: Daily headlines
for left-wing types, a frequent stopover.
- Flimsy Cavern and YOUNG ADVENTURE FRIENDS:
Mysterious comics from Billis and Steve of luv(sic). You should also email them and ask them about their fine cassettes and CD's. I've been listening to The Icky Kent Tape all the time these days.
- www.jimwoodring.com:
Terrifying and beautiful comics and cosmology.
- Ivan Brunetti's web page. He keeps getting better and sadder the further he gets from his initial ubernihilist stance.
- Flim is full of words and pictures.
- Starting Small is Missy Kulik's boutique of charming doodle zines and items. Elfs, apes.
- The Unofficial Homepage of Eamon Games: For those seeking evidence of Tape Mountain's geek status, look no further.
- The TRS-80 Model 100: Do you want people to look at you funny when you are in a coffeeshop? Do you like the idea of a laptop that runs on AA batteries and will still interface with your PC in some usable manner? This 1983 product may be for you!
